O’s Wait Out Rain To Outlast Halos
The Baltimore Orioles endured two rain delays, one lasting 1 hour 10 minutes just prior to the start of the game and the other lasting 1 hour six minutes with one on and one out in the bottom of the fifth inning. In between the delays the Orioles did all they need to do to secure a 2-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels (33-35).
Charlie Morton (3-7) started and flirted with disaster in four of the 5.0 innings he pitched, dealing with traffic in each of the first four innings and escaping runners in scoring position in three of thos innings. Morton’s only clean inning came in the fifth, before the rain ended his night. Morton allowed 5 hits with a walk and 10 strikeouts in earning the win.
The Orioles offense managed just 6 hits in the game but needed just two to secure the win. Ryan O’Hearn (2 for 4, 2B, HR, R, RBI) hit his 10th homerun of the season leading off the second inning, continuing to make his case to be named to the 2025 AL All-Star team and Ramon Laureano (1 for 3, HR, R, RBI, BB) hit his 8th homerun of the season leading off the fifth.
Adley Rutschman went 1 for 3 with a walk, Gunnar Henderson went 1 for 4 and Ramon Urias went 1 for 3. The Orioles put runners in scoring position in both the sixth and eighth innings but failed to cash in on those opportunities, a moot point based on how the bullpen performed following the rain delay.
Yennier Cano allowed 2 hits and struck out 1 in 1.0 inning of work and was helped by a double play.
Gregory Soto allowed a hit in 1.0 inning of work while Bryan Baker and Felix Bautista each struck out 2 in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively with Bautista earning his 13th save of 2025, on Friday the 13th no less.
2025 Record: 28-40
