Mets Stun Dodgers In Extras As Vientos Exits With Injury
The Mets (38-22) brought down the Dodgers (36-24) with a 4-3 extra-innings win on Monday evening in Los Angeles.
In the first of a four-game series, New York’s pitching shined, holding the league’s top-scoring offense to just three runs through ten innings. After a blown save sent the game to extras, the Mets held on in the 10th to notch a thrilling win. The offense came through in clutch moments, especially in the 10th, to secure the win. The Mets are now 31–1 this season when leading after seven innings this year.
Paul Blackburn (0-0, 0.00 ERA) impressed in his first outing for New York this season, tossing five scoreless innings. The right-hander struck out three and allowed just three hits to keep Los Angeles off the board.
Francisco Lindor opened the scoring with a solo home run that gave the club a 1-0 advantage in the first. It was his sixth leadoff homer in 2025, which is tied for most in MLB with Shohei Ohtani. The Mets have now won 27 straight games when Lindor homers.

New York doubled its lead in the fifth after Jeff McNeil and Francisco Alvarez knocked back-to-back one-out base hits. Brandon Nimmo followed with a two-out ground-rule double to drive in a run, making it 2–0. The Dodgers then intentionally walked Juan Soto to load the bases for Pete Alonso, who flew out to strand the runners.
Brett Baty snapped an 0-for-9 skid with a one-out single in the sixth, but the Mets couldn’t capitalize.
Huascar Brazobán took over on the mound in the sixth and worked around a bases-loaded jam to keep the Mets ahead. He allowed one hit, walked two, and struck out two.
Max Kranick gave up a solo homer to Ohtani in the seventh but struck out two to limit the damage. Ryne Stanek worked around a hit in the eighth to hold the Mets’ 2–1 lead.
In the ninth, Edwin Díaz blew his first save of the season, giving up a sacrifice fly to Ohtani that tied the game at 2–2. He allowed two hits and struck out two, escaping further trouble to send the game to extras.
The Mets rallied in the 10th. Luisangel Acuña began the inning at second base, and Francisco Alvarez immediately doubled to drive him home. Lindor added an RBI single to stretch the lead to 4–2. Mark Vientos grounded out to end the inning but grabbed his right hamstring as he attempted to run to first base. Manager Carlos Mendoza commented postgame the injury “did not look good,” and that Vientos would undergo further testing.
José Castillo took over in the bottom of the 10th and quickly allowed a walk and a single to bring the Dodgers within a run. With runners on first and second and no outs, he notched a strikeout before José Buttó came in to record the final two outs and earn his first save of the season.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Paul Blackburn earns Monday’s honor, tossing five scoreless innings in his season debut.
