Elephant Rumblings: A’s return home from winless road trip
MLB news roundup
Happy Monday, Athletics Nation!
The A’s wrapped up an undeniably nightmarish May and got off to a frustrating start to June over the weekend, completing a winless six-game road trip in the process. In the space of a few weeks, the A’s have transformed from one of the best road teams in the league to one that has lost 11 straight away games as they hobble back to their new home in West Sacramento, which has thus far hardly been a safe haven.
The A’s went 7-21 in May, and that’s despite getting off to a 4-1 start to what looked to become a merry month for the club. A 2025 season with hints of promise imploded as the A’s offense slumped and the pitching simply went off the rails. The back end of the rotation is in complete disarray, and even when Luis Severino, Jeffrey Springs, or JP Sears manages to put in a good start, the bullpen seems certain to blow it in late innings, as further evidenced by yesterday’s six-run meltdown in the eighth.
I doubt I’m alone in feeling that these games are getting tough to sit through. But every day brings a new opportunity to turn the corner, and today is no exception. The Twins are taking the A’s on at Sutter Health Park for a four game series this week; battle hardened in a highly competitive AL Central, Minnesota won’t be the easiest opponent to right the ship against—but the urgency to win a few games is great. Let’s see if the Athletics can rise to the occasion.
Have a wonderful week, AN.
