Morning Briefing: Ronny Mauricio to Continue Rehab in Binghamton

Good morning, Mets fans!

Newsday’s Tim Healey reports that rehabbing infielder Ronny Mauricio will progress to Double-A Binghamton beginning Friday. He’s been rehabbing with Single-A St. Lucie for the past week and a half. He was just 1-for-12 before going 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI on Tuesday.

The Mets fell 5-1 to the Arizona Diamondbacks in a frustrating one for the club Tuesday. Their offensive struggles were on full display, especially with runners in scoring position, going 0-for-3 and leaving five men on base. Zac Gallen baffled the Mets, allowing just two hits and three walks over seven innings. For the Mets, David Peterson went six innings and gave up four runs before handing things over to José Buttó, who allowed an unearned run over two innings.

Today, the Mets are sending out ace Kodai Senga (3-2, 1.38 ERA) to face off against 36-year-old Merrill Kelly (3-1, 4.06 ERA). The game is set to air at 3:40 P.M. ET on SNY.

Paul Blackburn,who has been rehabbing from knee inflammation, started another game Tuesday for Syracuse, throwing 54 pitches over 3 2/3 innings. He allowed one run on three hits and a walk while striking out five.
