Nolan McLean Promoted to Syracuse
The Mets are promoting right-handed pitching prospect Nolan McLean to Triple-A Syracuse. Daniel Wexler (@WexlerRules on Twitter) was the first to report the news.
McLean is ranked the fifth-best prospect in the Mets’ farm system by Baseball America and MLB Pipeline. He is ranked as the No. 99 prospect in the sport by Baseball America and No. 74 by Baseball Prospectus. Originally drafted as a two-way player out of Oklahoma State University, McLean began to focus exclusively on pitching during the 2024 season. The 23-year-old has diced up his opponents in 2025, posting a 1.37 ERA with 30 strikeouts against 12 walks in 26 1/3 innings for Double-A Binghamton. He has yet to allow a home run this season.
McLean’s fastball sits in the mid-to-high 90s, but his standout pitch is his sweeping slider, which some tout as one of the best in the sport. MLB Pipeline wrote earlier this year that the pitch boasts a spin rate over 3,000 rpm with over 20 inches of horizontal movement and velocity in the mid-80s. He also mixes in a cutter, change-up, and curveball.
McLean will join fellow top pitching prospect Brandon Sproat in the Syracuse rotation.
