Triple-A

Syracuse Mets (12-14) 6 Worcester Red Sox (14-11) 5

BOX SCORE

Rafael Ortega and Billy McKinney hit two-run homers today as Syracuse pulled away with a win vs Worcester. Donovan Walton collected an RBI today and raised his OPS to an impressive .943. Drew Gilbert made a fantastic catch in center field, robbing Nathan Hickey of extra bases and is making a strong case for a big league promotion whenever the team needs.

Blade Tidwell pitched three strong innings, including nine strikeouts, before being smacked around in the fourth inning, surrendering four runs. He was backed up by a gutsy performance from the bullpen, which walked three but only allowed one earned run. Chris Devenski locked down the win and holds a dominant 1.93 ERA.

Game 2

Syracuse slugged their way to victory in today’s makeup game, scoring 20 runs. Jakson Reetz hit two homers, and Jared Young hit his first home run of the season. Brett Baty also joined the party, hitting a two-run double in his first game back in Syracuse.

Justin Hagenman got shelled today, allowing seven earned runs in just two innings. The bullpen, except for Rico Garcia, was brilliant today, collecting six strikeouts. Anthony Gose’s conversion from hitter to pitcher has continued to go well, as his four strikeouts over 1.1 innings lowered his ERA to 2.61.
