A’s drop another, fall to Cubs 7-4
Another tough night for the club
The Athletics dropped their second straight game against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night, losing 7-4 and dropping the team’s record to 2-4 on the young season.
Right-hander Luis Severino got the ball for his second start of the season. He was fantastic his first time wearing the Green & Gold but he didn’t have his best stuff tonight. Chicago hit him hard and fast, scoring three runs off Sevy in the first inning off a 3-run bomb from Seiya Suzuki.
The A’s got two of those right back in the bottom of the frame. With one on and no outs against Chicago starter Justin Steele, designated hitter Brent Rooker strode to the plate and swatted his second home run of the season, a 2-run shot to make it a close game again:

The first of what should be many many more from the former All-Star.
Chicago got those two runs back a couple of innings later, rallying against Severino and putting more distance between the teams.
And again, the A’s fought back. Starting catcher Shea Langeliers came to the plate in the bottom of the third inning and blasted his second home run of the year, another 2=run shot to bring the team within one again:

The team just couldn’t keep up with the Cubs tonight though. Chicago scored yet another run in the top of the next inning, the sixth run off Severino tonight. He’d finish the night after six full innings, providing length but not much else on the mound tonight. TJ McFarland, Tyler Ferguson, and Justin Sterner finished off the game after Severino.
The scoring for the Athletics dried up without the long ball, and Rooker’s and Langeliers’ home runs were the only source of scoring the team had tonight. Not a great way to begin the Sacramento era.
The club will get back at it tomorrow afternoon for the first day game at Sutter Health Park. The A’s will send left-hander Jeffrey Springs to the mound hoping to get the team back in the win column. Chicago will counter with veteran righty Jameson Taillon. Let’s snap this losing streak and win that first game in the new home!
