The Guardians are linked to 26 players in this year’s international free agency class, but will still have around $2 million left in their pool, which they may trade to help a team like the Dodgers be able to sign Roki Sasaki. We will see in the next week what happens there.
We covered the ZiPS projections for the Guardians yesterday. FanGraphs also introduced a new projections system amusingly called OOPSY. OOPSY likes Jhonkensy Noel (111 wRC+) and Johnathan Rodriguez (109 wRC+), and prefers Tyler Freeman of the second base bunch (101 wRC+), and it has DeLauter at +6 wRC+ over Brennan. The pitching projections are pretty similar to the other public projections (ZiPS is definitely highest on the Guardians’ pitchers, Steamer is definitely highest on Guardians hitters). Sometime soon, we should get ATC and Bat X projections and we can come up with some cumulative projections to examine.
The Guardians will play the Phillies in Cleveland on Sunday Night Baseball on May 11th, 2025.
