Cup of Coffee: Arias keeps hitting, Bido dominantes

7/17 Cup of Coffee: As the All-Star break and MLB First-Year Player Draft continue on, there were just a pair of games in the Sox organization yesterday. Franklin Arias refuses to make outs with another big day for the FCL Sox on their win. The DSL teams played against each other as well, with Merlin Bido headlining the action in that one.

Franklin Arias remains scorching hot, as he went 3 for 3 with three singles and a walk to push his hitting streak to eight games. He also now has a hit in seven consecutive at-bats and is hitting .465 in July. Kleyver Salazar had a huge game as well, going 2 for 4 with a double and a grand slam. He is up to seven doubles, four home runs, and 30 RBI this season. Justin Riemer was 1 for 3 with a walk. Wuilliams Rodriguez started on the bump and pitched four no-hit innings with four strikeouts and just two walks. Yonfi Rodriguez finished off the final three innings with three runs (two earned) allowed and a pair of strikeouts.

Boston's two DSL squads squared off against each other yesterday, with Red coming away with the victory behind a dominant pitching performance that started with Merlin Bido. The right-hander tossed the first four innings without allowing a run. He struck out six, did not walk anybody, and gave up just one hit. Cesar Muzziotti tossed a scoreless frame after Bido, and Juan Henriquez nabbed a two-inning save with three strikeouts. Anderson Fermin was productive out of the leadoff spot for the Red team, going 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. Alexander Mambel went 2 for 3 with a two-run double as well.
The Blue team picked up three hits, all singles, courtesy of Justin Gonzales, Jesus Lugo, and Liosward Marin. Abis Prado started and lasted 3 1/3 innings with two runs (one earned) allowed. He walked three and struck out one. Gilbel Galvan allowed three runs in 2 2/3 innings, although none of them were earned.

Player of the Day: Merlin Bido turned in the best outing of his young professional career. The 18-year old has now pitched 16 2/3 frames this year with a 3.24 ERA and an impressive 0.78 WHIP. He was signed as an international free agent this past October.
