Morning Briefing: Automated Challenge System Full-Time in Triple-A

0 7

Good morning Mets fans!

On Tuesday, the MLB sent a memo to farm directors announcing that on June 25, all Triple-A games will use an automated ball-strike (abs) challenge system, ESPN reported.

The memo is the latest sign that the league is gradually heading towards implementing the challenge system.

In the challenge system, a catcher or hitter can challenge a ball or strike a call in real-time with the umpire receiving the answer via an earpiece.

For the first half of the Triple-A season, full ABS, which means every call is made for the umpire was used Tuesday-Thursday with the challenge system being used on weekends.

The earliest any system can be implemented in the major leagues will be 2026.
