Lindor: My Relationship With the Cohens is Important

Superstar Francisco Lindor made his first appearance (albeit of the exhibition variety) wearing a Mets uniform on Monday in Jupiter against the Marlins.

Lindor, acquired by the Mets in a trade with Cleveland that also netted them Carlos Carrasco, went 0-for-2 with a groundout and lineout at the plate.

Before the game, according to manager Luis Rojas, Lindor came into the clubhouse like a ball of fire trying to get the team pumped for their first Grapefruit League action in 2021.

The Mets lost the fake game by a 2-0 score, but Lindor was excited to finally get on the field “It was fun to finally get out there in a game,” Lindor said.

Monday had already been a big one for Lindor, as styles of his just released New Balance shoe line went on sale and some already sold out.

“I cried when I checked out the site and there were very few of them left…I’m living the dream, and it feels pretty damn good.”

Earlier in the day, Mets president Sandy Alderson said he would like to talk to Lindor’s agent relatively soon about a contract extension. He also said that he would like to stay in Lindor’s preferred time frame of getting something done before spring training is over.

Lindor says he doesn’t know when those conversations will start, though they might start soon. “They have to get to know me, and I have to get to know the organization,” Lindor said.

Lindor was part of the group of players that helped Alex Cohen launch the Mets philanthropy foundation, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation, last week in Port St. Lucie.

Francisco said that the Cohens are great people and that he has a similar background to Alex. “It’s important for me to have a great relationship with the Cohen’s and for me to represent the Mets the right way,” Lindor said.
