[Men's Cross Country] Leach Leads Bearcats in 9th Place Finish

The Brescia University men's cross country team finished ninth at the River States Conference XC Championship, hosted by the University of Rio Grande. The ninth place finish kept the team consistent with last season, when the team also finished ninth at the championship.

"The men ran well. Our top five has four freshman in it, so it will take time to see the team begin to really move up the rankings. We saw consistent improvement throughout the season and I believe it is a good sign for the future," said Head Coach Luke Stoffel.

The Bearcats were led by Christian Leach (FR, Monroe, Ohio), who finished the challenging 8k course in 20th place with a time of 29:04. Benjamin Brown (SO, Memphis, Mich.) was next to cross the line, placing 28th with a 29:53.

Jeremy White-Zavala (FR, Beaver Dam, Ky.) and Wesley Abney (FR, Russellville, Ky.) were the next two Bearcats to finish the 8k, completing the course in 31:48 and 32:10, respectively.

Caleb Sandefur (FR, Hartford, Ky.) rounded out the top five for the Bearcats, running 33:14.

James Barrow (SO, Elizabethtown, Ky.) and Tyler Walz (SO, Hawesville, Ky.) were the sixth and seventh Bearcats at the race, with Keitel McCoy (FR, Douglasville, Ga.), Draven Stewart (FR, Leitchfield, Ky.), and Wes Wheatley (SO, Hawesville, Ky.) all finishing the race as well.

The Bearcats will take a short break and then start to train for track season.
