Indians trade Rob Refsnyder to Rays

0

The Rays have acquired a formerly highly touted prospect.

The Rays have acquired Rob Refsnyder from the Indians in exchange for cash considerations, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

The move came about as a result of the Indians first claiming Jack Leathersich off waivers, prompting them to deal Refsnyder to open up a roster spot. With Refsnyder being out of options and likely to be claimed by another club on waivers, the Indians were able to salvage some money in making this deal.

Refsnyder, 27, was once a highly regarded prospect in the Yankees organization. However, he has failed to find consistent playing time, struggling to a career .233/.306/.311 slash line with two homers, 14 doubles, and 17 RBIs in 126 career games.

Now a member of the Rays, Refsnyder will likely begin the season in the minor leagues. The infield and outfielder utility man was competing for a spot on the Cleveland bench, but after losing the battle, he will now look to make the team in Tampa at some point this season.
