[Men's Wrestling] Elfernani Still Alive at Nationals

After a convincing first round victory, Williamson freshman Zakaria Elfernani (FR/Newtown Square, PA) gave it all he could against returning NCWA All-American Carlos Garcia from Middle Tennessee State University, but in the end it was not quite enough as he came up just short in a 7-5 second round defeat.

Elfernani fell behind 6-1 at one point, but mounted a furious rally late in the match before falling short and then dropping into the Consolation bracket.

Not to be dismayed, Elfernani came back in his first round consolation match to easily dispose of Temple University's Jake Yoder.  After building an 11-1 lead in the match, he then pinned Yoder in the second period to advance onward in the Consolation bracket.  He will wrestle again tonight for a chance to stay alive in the tournament.  He is still in contention for All-American status.

Sadly, for fellow freshman 141 pounder Jeremy Gannon (FR/Aston, PA), his tournament is over.  After losing in the first round of the tournament, Gannon then lost via pin in the second round to Danial Gough of Ohio State University to bring his tournament to an end.
