0

St. Ambrose exploded for a program-best 27 goals in a 27-3 win over Cleary Saturday afternoon in Chicago.

It breaks the mark of 21 goals set last year against Robert Morris and comes on the heels of SAU's 19-goal outburst in a win over Clarke on Wednesday.

Ten different Bees scored at least one goal, with Nelson Velez, Austin Adams, Thomas Parker and Jared Morgan each scoring four times. Myles Leyden, Nic Calabria, Danny Kinnerk, Liam Griffin and Matt Romero each tallied two goals. Hunter Northway had the other Bee goal.

Velez had a hat trick just four minutes into the game. Adams and Morgan also scored to help SAU to a 5-0 lead. The margin was 7-1 after the first quarter, 14-2 at halftime and 20-3 through three periods.

The Bees were credited with 72 shots as a team, 46 of those on goal.

After Andrew Lis allowed just one goal in the first quarter, Louis Mallillin surrendered two goals while making seven saves over the final three periods.

Leyden (five assists), Velez (three) and Morgan (three) each had seven-point games in the win.

Calabria, Parker, Griffin, Romero and Anthony Incesti also each collected one assist.

St. Ambrose will next host Madonna Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent's.
