[Men's Soccer] BRESCIA PICKS UP WIN VS PIKEVILLE
OWENSBORO KY – The Brescia University Men's Soccer team played host to the University of Pikeville for their eighth non-conference match of the season. Per usual, Brescia came out and pushed the tempo early creating chances. In the 14th minute Jean Laurent would get on the ball and take on three Pikeville defenders before playing a diagonal ball into the box for Ricardo Majano, who was able to beat the keeper to the ball, taking his touch to the end line, turn and curl the ball into the net from an incredibly tight angle. The half would stay fairly tight with Brescia Keeper Jacob Stanley punching away two different corner kicks to keep Pikeville scoreless. The half would end 1-0 in favor the Bearcats.
Pikeville would be the team to push the tempo early in the second half, getting in behind and tying the game up at 1-1. The tie wouldn't last long as Freshman Kyle Bleidt would swing in a cross for fellow Freshman Marin Murillo, who would head home his first goal of the season and give the lead back to Brescia. Then just five minutes later Karim Ndoye would play a low cross into the box where Ricardo Majano would have his initial shot saved by the Pikeville Keeper, but the rebound would fall to him and he would smash home his second of the match, giving the Bearcats a 3-1 lead.
The second half would play out until the 89th minute where Pikeville would get a consolation goal back, but the comeback was too little, too late and the match would end 3-2 in favor of Brescia University.
"It's always great to come out and get a win. The field conditions were a bit suspect from all the rain we'd gotten, but the boys come focused and ready to play. The win, kept us unbeaten at home, which is big" stated Head Coach Will Van Nostrand.
Brescia is back in action on Saturday, 21st as they host (24) Martin Methodist. Kickoff is at 5PM CST.
