Cypriot makes skydiving history
A Cypriot has made history by securing a podium finish at the European Indoor Skydiving Championship, marking a first for the country in the rapidly growing sport.
The 4th FAI European Indoor Skydiving Championships were held from April 1 to 4, 2026, at iFLY Aix-Marseille in Bouc-Bel-Air, France, bringing together some of the continent’s top competitors. Among them was Vasilisa Tyulina, a student at Xenion High School in Paralimni and a member of the Cyprus Parachute Association, who delivered a standout performance.
Tyulina claimed third place in her category, earning a bronze medal and becoming the first Cypriot athlete to reach the podium in indoor skydiving at a European championship level.
Speaking after her achievement, Tyulina said she felt “incredibly proud” to represent Cyprus on the international stage. “This medal means a lot, not just to me but to everyone back home who supports the sport,” she said. “It shows that even in smaller countries, athletes can compete at the highest level.”
Tyulina is no stranger to international competition, having previously represented Cyprus in multiple events. However, her latest success in France marks a significant milestone both in her personal career and for the sport nationally.
Officials from the Cyprus Parachute Association praised her accomplishment, describing it as a breakthrough moment. “Vasilisa’s success is a testament to her dedication and hard work,” a representative said. “We hope this inspires more young people in Cyprus to take up indoor skydiving.”
Indoor skydiving, which simulates freefall conditions in a vertical wind tunnel, has been gaining popularity across Europe in recent years.
Tyulina’s achievement signals a promising future for the sport in Cyprus, as athletes continue to push new boundaries on the international stage.
