A man was arrested late Friday after ten passengers were injured in a mass stabbing on board a train in Tokyo, Japan. The incident took place at 20:40 local time on Friday (10:40 UTC). One woman was seriously injured and nine of the ten injured received hospital treatment, with one walking away from the scene. The attacker fled, leaving behind the knife used in the attack. He surrendered himself at a convenience store later on Friday evening.

The suspect, a 36-year-old man, was reported by local media to have said he was angry when he saw "happy" women and wanted to kill them. The police confirmed the arrest but did not give out or confirm further details. The stabbing took place at Seijōgakuen-Mae Station, only 9 miles from the National Stadium, where the 2020 Summer Olympics are currently taking place, but is not believed to be related to the Olympics.

There is a low amount of violent crime in Japan, and security is also higher than usual due to the ongoing Olympics, which end on Sunday. However, there have been several mass stabbings in recent years.
