Weightlifter Mel Daluzyan, who was hospitalized in the wake of a knife attack in an Amsterdam supermarket, will spend more days under in-patient care, the Armenian Embassy to the Netherlands says on Facebook, citing informed sources.
The double champion of Europe and the world bronze winner was stabbed at the Albert Heijin supermarket on Thursday as he tried to rush to help to a cashier attacked by armed robbers.
The news was first reported by Daluzyan's friend, Lilit Lalayan, who shared a Facebook status shortly after the incident. ''Unfortunately, before the police arrived, one of the robbers managed to inflict stab wounds to him. Mel is in hospital now, he is stable. Dutch newspapers call heroic his act,'' read her post.
