Swimmers Descend on Bangor for 2025 McCullagh International

0 3

Swim Ireland and Swim Ulster will welcome over five hundred swimmers from one hundred clubs to the Bangor Aurora Swimming Complex in Co. Down for an action packed three days of racing at the McCullagh International, taking place from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd February.

For Irish swimmers, the meet will be an opportunity to tune up for the Irish Open Championships, which act as a qualification meet for Summer Internationals, including the 2025 World Aquatics Championships, taking place from the 12th to the 16th of April at the Sport Ireland Campus.

The McCullagh International provides a fantastic opportunity for many athletes to race in a major long course competition for the first time in 2025. Some of Ireland’s top swimmers will be in action with Paris Olympians Danielle Hill, Ellen Walshe, Tom Fannon and Grace Davison and Paralympians Róisín NíRiain, Dearbhaile Brady, Barry McClements and Deaten Registe competing. They will be joined by British Olympic Medallists Duncan Scott, Jack McMillan, and Kathleen Dawson, as a strong contingent from Britain also take to the blocks.

The three-day meet will also provide Irish swimmers and clubs an opportunity to battle it out for National relay titles.

Speaking ahead of the McCullagh International, Swim Ireland National Performance Director Jon Rudd said, “This is the final domestic tune up event before we get to the Irish Open Championships in April, the Trials for a whole host of international events this summer. This event is always action packed and to see the majority of Ireland’s leading athletes go head-to-head with some fine talent from across the waters is always something to savour.”
