Winter Regionals – 2019!

DSC’s Winter Regional Championships started with a bang in Basildon Essex over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd November 2019.  Qualifying swimmers were all from DSC’s Performance and Sprint 3 squads, and all produced some blistering swims over the 2 days.  Huge congratulations go to Walter Hackett, Ollie Ellison, Michael Judd, Jessica Kefford, Millie Dudley, Myles Mathias, Jamie Hose, Maia Morgan and Rhianne Carrick – Well Done All….

Walter Hackett (16) – Walter started his winter regionals with a fabulous PB and a brand new ‘Winter National Time’ in the 200IM in a time of 2.10.75, giving him a massive 7.5 sec pb! He went onto swim the 50m Freestyle and clocked 25.43.  Walter then swam the 100m backstroke and clocked a great time of 57.38 with good even splits.  The swim was good enough to make the final.  Unfortunately Walter injured himself at this point, and had to withdraw from any further competition on this 1st day of racing. On day 2 Walter appeared to make a miraculous recovery and swam his 50m backstroke in a staggering 26.7 pb!, he then went onto swim the 100IM and swam an incredible 1.01.26 giving him his 2nd ‘Winter National Time’ in these championships. He went onto swim the 100m freestyle in a pb of 55.16, the 50m breastsroke in 31.56 pb and the 200m backstroke in 2.13.23.  Walters big final came in the 50m backstroke where he clocked 26.50 another pb from heat to final! and finished a very respectable 4th place. – An awesome championships, well done Walter.

Ollie Ellison (16) – Ollie qualified for the 50m freestyle and clocked a time of 26.44 – well done Ollie.

Michael Judd (21) – Michael straight back from his Bronze National Masters medal win, had a great regional championships. He too swam the 200IM in 2.13 bang on his PB.  Next came the 50m freestyle where he clocked 25.75, followed quickly by the 100m breaststroke in 1.12.81, this was a very busy session for him.  Later on that 1st day, he swam the 100m backstroke and clocked 1.00.64 putting him back on PB.  Michael then swam the 50m backstroke and was back on pb in a time of 28.30.  Finally he swam the 50m breaststroke in a time of 31.61 – well done Michael.

Jessica Kefford (15) – Jess our backstroke superstar qualified in all 3 distances of 50m, 100m and 200m in this stroke.  Up first was the 50m where she was right on pb in a time of 31.92.  Next came the 200m and Jess clocked a time of 2.30.70.  On the 2nd day Jess swam the 100m backstroke where she nailed a new Regional Qualifying Time in 1.08.62 – well done Jess.

Millie Dudley (15) – Millie qualified for 3 50m events for winter regionals, and produced some scorching swims! Her first was the 50m backstroke and she was bang on PB in a time of 32.46. Her next swim was the 50m Butterfly where she produced a great swim in 30.55.  Finally she swam the 50m breaststroke where she was right on her pb once again in a time of 36.64 – Well done Millie.

Myles Mathias (17) – Myles qualified for the 50m Butterfly and produced a time of 29.50 – well done Myles.

Jamie Hose (19) – Jamie also qualified for the 50m Butterfly and swam a time of 28.82 – well done Jamie.

Maia Morgan (16) – Maia qualified for the 50m Breaststroke and clocked a time of 37.14 – well done Maia.

Rhianne Carrick (15) – Rhianne qualified for the 50m Butterfly and produced a huge swim in 31.78 – well done Rhianne.

Well done everyone on some fantastic swimming!

DSC now turn their attention to National Arena Swimming League Round 2, to be held in Leamington Spa on 9th November 2019.
