The easiest 10km on the planet - Embrace!

0
Last post we talked about Carlos and his hitting the qualifying time for the Lake Erie crossing. I had already hit this time last year which fell into the acceptable window but I do still need some distance under my belt. So - doing my 2nd 10km of the summer at the easiest place to do one (literally) was a no brainer.

For those who are not familiar Guillivers Lake is almost exactly 1km if you swim the shore line all the way around. Add in a "beach run" at the tail of every loop and you have the ingredients for a simple but exciting race.

The longer races went first (and early) so that for the most part they didn't get run over by the multitudes of 1500m swimmers. I had to dodge a couple coming into my finish. As usual the lake was warm and flat. Lots of the "regulars" were there and I was pleased to see many of my teammates there as well. My oldest son competed as well in the 1500m and even did his best impersonation of his dad doing some fly on the final leg.

The feel of this swim is a cozy one. Everyone had smiles on their faces and I suspect it is a by-product of the race directors personality, that being Miguel. He and his team always put on a great (even if its late) event.

Mix in some barbecue and a whole bunch of new spectators as the park filled up and you really had the summer vibe in full effect at the end.

My swim went well enough. I felt decent by the time I got into lap 2 (of 10) and started taking in my rocket fuel at the end of lap 3 and then every 2 from there on out.

Lap 6 actually felt the best of the lot, which is an odd place for that to fall. I did butterfly the last 25 meters (ish) at the end of every lap to make sure I did clutz my way through the beach run portion.

Usually there were a lot of dolphin dives to get us through the shallow start of the next lap.

What my overall time was I cannot tell you. I know if was around 3:30 which is right about where I expected. I get to test the distance again soon at the Welland Canal.

After the swim we hung out for the better part of the afternoon just goofing around and having a blast.

A big thanks and fist bump to Miguel and team for another successful swim. I hope to see the results soon(ish)! Miguel you really are a great addition to swimming in Ontario.

Until I touch the wall.....
