Roaring westerlies and rising swell

0 20

Hello Friends,

Wind was gusting impressively at RealSurf HQ this morning when I took the pictures – and it was cold. The Bureau has a Gale Warning up for 25-35 kts from the SW this morning ahead of a swing to the south at about the same intensity. Out at sea the buoy outside Botany Bay was seeing 2.9 metres of 10-second south swell which, as you can see from the snaps, was translating into shoulder-high wave faces on sets along the beach. It was closer to chest high at the point. Given the forecast for 2-4 metre swell offshore, I’d say we’ve yet to see the peak of this particular pulse. Naturally, I’m keen to see what the Goat thinks about how this energy bump will play out plus what he thinks about the coming week.

An update for those patiently waiting to look at the pictures I took of them back on 12 June at Dee Why. I thought it was nearly there a few days ago, but turns out things were complicated… anyway, I’m hoping to have the doors open before this swell pulse fades away!

Go well with your Thursday everyone.

Weather Situation

A strong cold front pushed east into the Tasman Sea overnight with strong to gale-force west to southwesterly winds in its wake, easing today. Winds will ease further and gradually turn south to southwesterly later in the week as a high pressure system drifts across the south of the state, before shifting southwest to southeasterly over the weekend as the high reaches the Tasman Sea.
