Uptick in energy
Hello Friends,
As of 0830 the wind was wafting in from the east at 4-7 kts. Skies were partly cloudy (might be an afternoon shower) and east wind swell bumped up into the 1.2 metre range overnight (at dusk yesterday it was 0.8 m). The average period however dropped into the 5 second range. Dee Why looked to be in the waist-ish high range on sets and although I didn’t see them catch anything while I was taking the pics, there were a few hopefuls bobbing around at the point. Water’s on 22 and first tide of the day is a swampy 1.87 m high at 1050.
The wind’s due to move around to the north this morning before swinging S-SE after lunch. And it’s going to stay southerly through Tuesday according to the Bureau. Swell conditions should see a mix of south and NE energy, so maybe there will be a few fun ones in the south corners.
Weather outlook for the remainder of the week is showery every day with S to SE wind. So, not great I’m afraid. It does look as though the easterly swell energy should stay around the 2 metre mark* or so into next weekend. But quality? Meh.
*the ECMWF model is showing 3-3.5 metre, 10 sec east cyclone swell mid-week, but the GFS is saying 2 metres at best…

A trough is moving along the New South Wales coast bringing a southerly change that is expected to reach the Hunter coast today. During the first half of the week south to southeasterly winds are forecast to increase along the New South Wales coast as a ridge of high pressure develops across the south and Tropical Cyclone Alfred gradually moves south over the Coral Sea.

- Northerly 15 to 20 knots, reaching up to 25 knots offshore during the morning. Winds shifting south to southeasterly in the early afternoon.

- 1 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres around midday.

- Northeasterly around 1 metre inshore, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres offshore around midday.

- Mostly sunny day. The chance of a thunderstorm offshore late this afternoon and evening.
