Hazy Sunday morning
Hello Friends,
Dialled up the haze filtration on the picture this morning because the atmosphere had a distinctly smoky look when I climbed aloft to the RealSurf crows nest. Wind was coming from the SSW at 6-9 kts as of 0830 so the ocean didn’t look too choppy at Dee Why. The overflow parking lot was at capacity and there were a reasonable number of people in the water just north from Kiddies. Waves looked inconsistent, weak and struggling to get much above the waist high mark. Out at sea the MHL buoy was detected 1.9 metres of 6-second ENE wind bump as of 0600, while the Botany Bay buoy was seeing 1.6 m at 6-sec from the ESE as of 0850. This is in line with the Bureau’s forecast, which also tells us to expect the wind to be southerly by this afternoon. So all up, a get in while the getting’s sort of good because surfwise it looks all downhill for the rest of Sunday.
Tomorrow’s shaping to be southerly and grey, so a good day to be back at work or school. Tuesday’s nicer weatherwise and the wind could be SSW for the early along with little waves at south magnets. The long period SSE pulse is still showing in the predictions for Wednesday. Weather is set to be cloudy, but there should be light NE winds across the morning hours, so north corners could have some possibilities.
Have a great Sunday!
Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea is directing northeasterly winds along the northern half of the New South Wales coast, where a trough midway up the coast has brought a southerly change to the south overnight. The trough will shift north during Sunday, then reach the Queensland border on Monday before rapidly weakening. A new, weak high over the Tasman Sea is forecast to bring a brief return to northerly winds during Tuesday, before the next trough and southerly change mid-week.
