Scrappy summer surf for Saturday

As the picture above shows, at around 0630 Surfrider Gardens wasn’t looking quite as interesting as yesterday. But it was still better than the paltry offerings along the Dee Why to Longy stretch. The wind blew all night from the NNE and at daybreak it was already 11-17 kts, so the better exposures were lumpy and choppy. Out at sea the east swell was 1.7 metres at 11-12 seconds, so despite the generally soft and full looking conditions, there could be a few sets with some oompf.

The Bureau tells us to expect the wind to come up a bit more as the day goes along and to expect a cloudy day with a 70% chance of a shower as we head to a high of 30C. Water’s 24C and first tide of the day was a 1.6m high at 0730.

Tomorrow doesn’t look too interesting surfwise because we’re going to get a south change. That might open up a few possiblities in south corners, but for Dee Why to Long Reef and Surfrider Gardens to Northy, we’re probably looking at ho-hum sideshore junkiness.

The southerly should taper overnight Sunday and on Monday morning east swell spots could be seeing potentially interesting conditions if the models’ call for light winds early and 2ish metres of 13-second east comes true.

From the look of things, we should have adequate swell through the week, but wind will likely be an issue most days.
