Sunny start but still no waves

The ABC didn’t ask for a surf report today, so running a bit later than usual for a Saturday. Not that it matters much, because there still really aren’t any waves. As you can see, there were a few people at the point sitting right next to the rocks. The beachies are too small, which is probably good for the surf boats practising (?) out in front of the SLSC.

As of 1030, the wind was coming out of the north at 7-11 kts. It should settle to the NE as the day goes along and be a brisk 15-25 kts by nightfall. Swell at sea was 1.3 metres at 8 seconds from the ENE.

From the shape of the models, it looks as though it’ll be midweek before we see any improvement to the surf prospects.

45,000 new COVID cases reported yesterday (highly likely to be a significant underestimate), so it is now close to a certainty that you will personally know at least one person who’s come down with it. In my case, I know of six so far. Omicron’s escaped some of the protection offered by vaccination, but so far, fingers crossed, the majority of folks are getting through it okay. 64% of those hospitalised are unvaccinated, while 19% have had one (7%) or 2 (12%) jabs.
