ACADIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- A man wanted in connection with a drive-by shooting in Church Point in January has been arrested.
Nyllean Riggs, 19, of Church Point, was arrested Wednesday afternoon, according to the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office. Among the charges is assault by drive by shooting, illegal discharge of a firearm, possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated criminal damage to property and convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
The incident took place Jan. 28 after a report of several shots being fired at the corner of David Street and West Canal Street in Church Point. Officers were told that a person had been shot in the lower back and was at the hospital.
Investigators said the person shot initially began firing at someone in another vehicle who stopped and returned fire, striking him. Officials said that the initial vehicle the suspects were in was allegedly stolen from Opelousas. Authorities obtained warrants for Riggs and a juvenile who was also in the suspect’s vehicle, police said.
