Tottenham sent scout to England vs Uruguay to watch 10 G/A full-back, but there is a problem

0 0

Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on a South American full-back who has been forging a fine reputation in Portuguese football.

Roberto De Zerbi will be eyeing major changes to his Tottenham squad in the summer, and left-back is one of the areas that the Italian may have to strengthen.

Even though Souza has shown some promising signs since arriving from Santos, Destiny Udogie has been linked with a return to Serie A this summer.

It appears that the North London club have set their sights on a 26-year-old left-back, who has six goals and four assists to his name across all competitions this season.

Tottenham scout Maxi Araujo against England during the international break

Over recent weeks, reports have indicated that Tottenham have made contact with Sporting Lisbon’s Maxi Araujo, as have their London rivals, Chelsea.

The Uruguay international, who has also been used at left wing this season, has been a consistent performer for Sporting in Liga Portugal as well as in the Champions League, and his performances have been noted in the British capital.

A new report in Record (as relayed by Sport Witness) now reveals that as many as 12 English clubs sent scouts to Wembley to watch Araujo in action against England during the recent international break.

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea were among those as the left-back delivered a solid display to help Uruguay emerge with a 1-1 draw against Thomas Tuchel’s side.

The report claims that scouts from the two London clubs have also been regularly spotted in Sporting’s matches this season and were in attendance when the full-back scored in a win against Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League.

Araujo has already revealed his Premier League ambition

The 26-year-old has made it known to potential suitors that he is keen on playing in the Premier League.

Ahead of Uruguay’s recent clash against the Three Lions, Argujo said he hopes the match is his “first of many” in England.

Those comments would have certainly piqued the interest of several English clubs, with a transfer battle potentially on the cards for the wide man.
