Shea Lacey's goal not enough as Man United U21 lose six-goal thriller to Real Madrid

0 2

Manchester United U21s exited the Premier League International Cup on Tuesday evening after losing 4-2 to Spanish side Real Madrid at Old Trafford.

United got off to a dream start as Jack Moorhouse opened the scoring in the 10th minute. He glided past his marker, before rifling into the top corner.

Shortly after, the Young Reds were awarded a penalty after Chido Obi was brought down. Shea Lacey stepped up, slotting into the bottom corner.

Will Murdock in the United goal made a good save to keep Bruno Iglesias’s free-kick at bay.

However, he could not prevent the visitors from pulling one back before half-time, with Gabriel Castrelo smashing past him and into the roof of the net.

Madrid completed the comeback after the restart with a stroke of luck as Iglesias’s strike cannoned off Daniel Armer before finding the net.

Neither side could find the winner before full-time, sending the game into extra-time.

Substitute Jaime Barroso put the visitors ahead in the second half of extra-time, smashing past Murdock.

Daniel Mesonero wrapped up the scoring, picking the bottom corner to seal Madrid’s progress to the semi-final.

Adam Lawrence’s side will be hoping to put the disappointment behind them when they host Newcastle United as they aim to beat Chelsea to the Premier League 2 top spot ahead of the play-offs.
