Man Utd handed green light to sign 25yo PL star but face £100m problem

0 39

Manchester United have been given a green light to make a move for Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon this summer.

According to The Telegraph, Gordon could be allowed to leave Newcastle if a substantial bid is tabled.

The Magpies are believed to be demanding in excess of £100 million for the 25-year-old, who remains under contract until 2030.

The Red Devils are actively searching for a dynamic left-winger to strengthen their attack, particularly with a return to the UEFA Champions League on the horizon.

Man United must negotiate smartly

Newcastle currently sit 12th in the Premier League, trailing fifth-placed Liverpool by seven points.

Based on their inconsistent form under manager Eddie Howe, they appear increasingly likely to miss out on European qualification.

Gordon is an ambitious player who has already showcased his quality on the biggest stage this season.

Newcastle were eliminated by Barcelona in the Round of 16.

Despite the exit, Gordon delivered a stunning campaign. He netted 10 goals and is currently ranking second in the scoring charts, only behind Kylian Mbappe (13).

The England international would represent a strong addition for United, bringing proven Premier League pedigree and attacking flair.

His profile mirrors the impact made by recent signings such as Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

However, United are unlikely to sanction a £100m move, especially with significant investment required in midfield.

If the Red Devils can negotiate the fee down to around £60m-£70m, a deal for Gordon would suddenly become an extremely attractive proposition.
