It’s a Privilege to Play for Queen’s Park – I feel I can get back to my best

SCOTT MARTIN thought this season would be a write-off as he returned from a knee injury picked up playing against Queen’s Park last season.

Now he’s feeling privileged, not only to be back playing, but to be doing so wearing the Queen’s Park shirt.

Martin’s arrival on loan from Partick Thistle has seen him feature seven times under Sean Crighton – losing only once in a substitute appearance at Dunfermmline as the Spiders have hit a positive run of form.

The midfielder said: “This move was an opportunity for me and I’m beginning to feel fit again and finding my feet to get back to my best again.

“It’s been an absolute privilege to be here at this club and play games again when I had maybe thought this season would have been a write-off.

“Since I have come through the door the spirit has been brilliant with everyone pulling in the right direction. We need that togetherness to fundamentally to stay in this league.

“Our main aim is safety first and foremost and then who knows what happen from there but hopefully another couple of good results and secure our place in the Chammpionship.

“You always do want to look up the way but we do need to secure our status in the league but we can’t really look too far forward or at other things – it’s every game as it comes and the next one is a big one.

“This is the Championship – there will be more twists and turns and anyone can get a result against anyone but Thistle and Saints are the two best team in the league and theyre up there for a reason, but I also think that’s why we should take credit for the way we played and took a point from the league leaders too.”

Martin was full of praise for his team-mates’ performance at McDiarmid Park where captain Euan Murray’s first-half header helped secure a point.

“In terms of football it might not have been the best game, but in terms of commitment, hard work and frustrating St Johnstone I thought we performed our task really well.

Our gameplan worked really well. We worked on it all through the week.

“Saints had chances and they will have because they’re a really good side, but when we lost the goal we knew we had to settle and find our groove in the game and I think we did that after their goal. They could have scored another but so could we – we had chances too.”

The Spiders now have a weekend off with scheduled opponents Raith Rovers in the KDM Evolution Trophy Final with Inverness on Sunday.

Ross County are next up at The city Stadium on April 10, with a 7.45pm kick off live on BBC Scotland.
