Not Sancho: Euro giants want to sign 27yo Man Utd star for £0, poised to open talks
Turkish giants Besiktas are prepared to open discussions with Manchester United for goalkeeper Altay Bayindir ahead of the summer transfer window, according to SporX.
Bayindir is in his third season with the Red Devils, but he has made only 17 appearances. The 27-year-old started the current campaign as the first-choice goalkeeper, but he has since lost his spot to Senne Lammens.
Besiktas failed with a mid-season approach to sign Bayindir from the Mancunian giants, and SporX report that they are ready to try again this summer after receiving the green light from manager Sergen Yalcin.
United signed Bayindir from Fenerbahce for £4.3 million in the summer of 2023. It is claimed that Besiktas are expected to open talks with the Red Devils over a free transfer for the experienced shot-stopper.
Bayindir could follow Sancho & Casemiro out of Man Utd
Jadon Sancho is presently on a season-long loan at Aston Villa from the Red Devils. His contract expires on June 30, and United won’t be triggering a 12-month extension clause. He is 100 percent certain to leave on a free transfer. Casemiro is also confirmed to depart this summer.
Alongside Sancho and Casemiro, Bayindir looks poised to part ways. Besiktas want his services for £0, but the Red Devils must not entertain his departure unless they can recoup some of the investment made three years ago.
Besiktas are more than capable of meeting United’s financial demands, and Bayindir’s £35,000 per week wages should not be a concern either. They already have eight players in their squad who earn more than the 27-year-old ace.
In our view, the Red Devils should seek at least £3m for Bayindir despite his lack of regular first-team football. The club may have to spend a much higher fee to pursue a proper back-up to Lammens ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Melker Ellborg was a top target for the Red Devils, but he joined Sunderland from Malmo last winter for £3m. United could still consider an approach for the Swede at the end of the season.
