Maradona Junior: ‘If my father was God at Napoli, then McTominay is Jesus’

Diego Armando Maradona’s son gave the highest possible praise to Scott McTominay. ‘He is the most decisive Napoli player after my father. If Diego was God, then Scott is Jesus.’

The midfielder has certainly made an impact since his arrival from Manchester United in 2024, including a place in the Ballon d’Or ranking, and named Serie A Player of the Year.

He picked up where he left off this season, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists in 36 competitive games.

Following the decisive strike to beat Cagliari 1-0 on Friday, Diego Armando Maradona Junior made a remarkable comparison.

“After my father, McTominay is the most decisive player in the history of Napoli,” said the Neapolitan on Televomero.

“We had God at Napoli in the form of Diego, but for me McTominay is Jesus. He is a completely fundamental player.”

Maradona is such a legend at this club that within hours of his death from heart failure in November 2020, the Stadio San Paolo was renamed in his honour.

Although the Argentine was only at Napoli from 1984 to 1992, it was the most successful spell in the club’s history, leading to two Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia, one UEFA Cup and one Italian Supercup.

Murals with his image remain on the walls of Naples to this day and represent a shrine for football lovers around the world.
