Man United 3-1 Aston Villa: Player Ratings – Fernandes breaks Beckham’s record, 9/10 for three superstars

0 0

Manchester United produced a commanding performance to secure an emphatic 3-1 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

United head coach Michael Carrick opted to make two changes to the side that suffered a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United in their previous outing.

Amad Diallo and Diogo Dalot were drafted into the starting XI, replacing Noussair Mazraoui and Benjamin Sesko.

United began the contest cautiously but gradually found their rhythm as the match progressed.

However, the game burst into life after the interval, with four second-half goals ultimately deciding the outcome of the contest.

Casemiro broke the deadlock with a powerful finish after Bruno Fernandes delivered a pinpoint cross from a corner.

Ross Barkley briefly stunned the home crowd by equalising against the run of play for Villa but Matheus Cunha fired United ahead just seven minutes later.

Substitute Benjamin Sesko then sealed the victory, coming off the bench in the 75th minute to add another goal and wrap up all three points.

The result leaves United firmly in the driving seat in their quest to secure a coveted top-four finish.

Player Ratings

Senne Lammens – 7/10

Produced a strong save to deny Onana shortly before Villa equalised.

Diogo Dalot – 7/10

Timed a superb late run to meet Fernandes’ pass, only to fire his effort into the stands. He showed much more intent to whip crosses from the right flank.

Harry Maguire – 8/10

Made a crucial one-on-one intervention to stop Ollie Watkins during a Villa counter. Commanded the defence and proved his importance to the side.

Leny Yoro – 7/10

Looked assured in central defence next to Maguire and dealt comfortably with most of Villa’s attacks.

Luke Shaw – 7/10

Defensively solid and never afraid to engage in tackles and duels, though he could have offered more support in attack.

Casemiro – 9/10

Fired home his seventh goal of the season, with fans chanting for him to remain at the club for another year. A true midfield warrior.

Kobbie Mainoo – 7/10

Improved from his previous display by showing composure with the ball at his feet and making tidy passes.

Bruno Fernandes – 9/10

Produced two superb assists to take his tally to 16 for the campaign, surpassing David Beckham’s record of 15 in a single season. The Portuguese magnifico once again ran the show.

Matheus Cunha – 8/10

Showed real authority by beating his marker and delivering a dangerous cross for Amad Diallo. Later capped his performance with a ruthless finish into the far corner.

Amad Diallo – 5/10

He should have buried the opportunity created by Cunha. Drew a big save from Martinez at 0-0 and looked too desperate in the second half.

Bryan Mbeumo – 6/10

Similar to his effort against Manchester City, he struck a left-footed shot on the run, but Martinez produced a solid save. He was replaced by Sesko in the second half.

Substitutes

Benjamin Sesko – 9/10

Showed classic striker instincts by controlling the ball with his back to goal, spinning sharply and firing it into the net. He is quickly becoming a contender for United’s signing of the summer.

Manuel Ugarte – NA

Too late to rate.
