David De Gea sends 27-word message to Antonin Kinsky after Tottenham nightmare

0 1

Man United legend David De Gea has extended his support to Tottenham keeper Antonin Kinsky, who was in tears as he came off in the first half of Spurs’ 5-2 loss to Atletico Madrid.

Things could not have started any worse for the Lilywhites at the Metropolitano Stadium as they found themselves 4-0 down and essentially out of the tie with just 22 minutes played.

To make matters worse, all of the first three goals had come courtesy of unforced errors from Spurs players, two from Antonin Kinsky and one slip from Micky van de Ven.

It was a nightmare Champions League debut for Kinsky, who was in tears as he was replaced by Guglielmo Vicario just 16 minutes into the encounter.

David de Gea leaps to the defence of Tottenham’s Antonin Kinsky

The Czech goalkeeper had not started a game for Spurs in nearly five months, and it would have been a crushing blow to last just 17 minutes in what was his big opportunity to shine on the big stage.

David de Gea has insisted that it is only goalkeepers who understand the difficulty associated with the role and assured Kinsky that he will bounce back.

The Man United legend wrote on X: “No one who hasn’t been a goalkeeper can understand how difficult it is to play in this position. Keep your head up and you will go again.”

Igor Tudor shares what he told Kinsky

The Spurs interim boss did not comfort the goalkeeper as he was in tears coming off the pitch and headed straight down the tunnel, but the Croat revealed that he spoke to the youngster in the dressing room.

Tudor shared that he and the Spurs players told Kinsky that they are with him, and confessed that the 22-year-old was sorry for letting the team down.

The former Juventus boss defended his decision to select the Czech goalkeeper over the experienced Vicario, but insisted that he had no option but to make a change as his side was ‘fragile’ at that moment.
