Nemanja Vidic shares honest verdict on 44-year-old as potential Man United manager

0 0

Manchester United have enjoyed a promising start under interim head coach Michael Carrick.

The former England international has now overseen the team for the past eight matches.

With six victories, one draw and just a single defeat, it is fair to say Carrick has exceeded expectations so far.

United are their own biggest enemies.

Several former United stars have made harsh, personal and often non-constructive remarks about both the players and the coaching staff.

Paul Scholes, Gary Neville and Roy Keane have been particularly vocal in opposing the idea of Carrick being handed the full-time managerial role.

However, one Man United legend holds a very different view.

Nemanja Vidic believes the players and Carrick should focus primarily on achieving Champions League qualification for next season.

He said (via The Athletic): “Michael and the players have my support, and I hope they provide us with the Champions League football that United must have. Let Michael and his players try and reach it.

“Don’t put pressure him as to what comes after. Let’s enjoy it for now.”

Vidic went on to describe Carrick as a person who knows how to control his emotions.

Excessive emotional reactions were arguably one of the reasons why Ruben Amorim lost his job after just 14 months in charge.

Vidic added: “Michael was a good team-mate who tried to control his emotions and think clearly. He has his own opinions but doesn’t push to tell it if nobody asks. But he has a side where he has a strong opinion on how he sees football.

“He’s not necessarily loud, a screamer or a shouter, someone who says that he’s the cleverest in the room, but he’s a strong character, and he needs to be. But forget the future for now, enjoy the present.”

United possess one of the largest fanbases in world football, meaning every victory, defeat or piece of news inevitably triggers strong reactions.

Carrick appears to be a calm and composed figure, much like he was when controlling the tempo with the ball at his feet during his playing career.

However, composure alone cannot be the sole criterion for earning the permanent managerial position.

The immediate priority must be finishing the season strongly and securing qualification for the Champions League.

Only then should the club carefully evaluate the managerial options available on the market.

A thorough assessment will be required, and if the 44-year-old ultimately emerges as the best candidate, he should be given the job.
