Wolverhampton Wanderers v Aston Villa: FPL tips, predicted line-up, team news and match preview

0 0

Aston Villa are working hard to keep their quest for Champions League football on track and kick off the weekend’s Premier League fixtures away at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Villa have been able to hold on to third place thus far but would be well advised to rediscover some match-winning form before a lack of it catches up to them. It’s very evident that failure this season is not an option.

Manager Unai Emery is the key and he needs to get Villa firing again in the Premier League. The injuries holding back his midfield are a problem but having a problem doesn’t move the ultimate target. Villa need points in threes and they need them now.

Villa’s struggles at Molineux

On paper, the only fixture this season that should be easier than Wolves away is Wolves at home. Villa made heavy work of that 1-0 win and Wolves, while their improvements have not been fruitful, are not the pushover their imminent relegation would suggest.

Former Villa defender Rob Edwards has been able to install a bit of fight into his team even in futility. It’s not going to keep them in the Premier League but it does pose a threat to Villa’s hopes.

As the team prepare to make the short trip to Molineux, Villa’s supporters will be very aware that it’s not an easy place to win. Recent history is largely devoid of Villa wins at Wolves and league position has relatively little to do with it.

Villa’s record up the road was excellent for years before a 3-2 win in January 2012. Former Wolves striker Robbie Keane scored twice, pushing them towards relegation. That might be a positive omen given their current standing but Villa have won once in the eight away meetings since – never in the seven with a crowd.

They’ve lost six of those eight games at Molineux including three of the last four.

Villa team news

Emery will be able to include Marco Bizot (suspension) and Alysson (injury) back into his matchday squad for Friday’s game at Wolves.

Right-back Andrés García is out with a hamstring injury and there was no update in Emery’s pre-match press conference on the prognosis for Harvey Elliott, who won’t play regardless, or Villa’s trio of injured midfielders.

John McGinn and Youri Tielemans remain unavailable. They’ll both be out for some weeks to come, while Boubacar Kamara‘s season is over.

Villa predicted line-up and FPL tips v Wolves

Rogers continues to lead the way in terms of Villa FPL points and is a dead cert to start against Wolves on Friday. The matter of who starts up front is less clear despite Tammy Abraham scoring the equaliser against Leeds United last weekend.

Abraham would be in my starting line-up at Molineux but Ollie Watkins is still the more likely starter at centre-forward for the time being.

I’ve described Jadon Sancho coming in for Leon Bailey as an easy decision for Emery and I’m expecting him to make that call.

Pau Torres gets the nod at the back in my predicted team but the eleven is full of players Emery has trusted lately. I think he’ll expect those levels from them on Friday rather than opting for wholesome changes.
