'He was immense': Carrick blown away by what one Man Utd star did vs Everton
Manchester United grounded out a gritty 1-0 away victory over Everton in the Premier League on Monday night.
Benjamin Sesko emerged from the bench once more to find the net, intensifying the clamour for head coach Michael Carrick to hand him a starting berth next time out.
While Sesko proved to be the difference-maker, Senne Lammens clearly stole the spotlight with his flawless display.
Lammens had to work really hard to earn his fifth clean sheet of the 2025-26 season.
Carrick acknowledged the significant effort from his goalkeeper after the game.
He said (via BBC Sport): “He made a couple really good saves, he looked calm and composed in a tough environment.
“A lot of corners coming in under his crossbar, didn’t get flustered, took some good chances and clean hands. He was immense for us tonight.”
Everton relied on corners to bring the game level after Sesko fired United ahead.
The hosts attempted every dark art in the book to unsettle Lammens at corners, but the young stopper stood his ground with remarkable composure.
Amid the chaos in his six-yard box, he repeatedly surged off his line to punch clear with conviction and bravery.
It was a dominant and arguably his best performance since his £18.2 million transfer from last summer.
He had already set the tone earlier in the night with a sharp save to deny James Garner before the break.
His standout intervention arrived in the second half, when he reacted superbly to keep out a thunderous long-range strike from Michael Keane.
The United faithful had to endure two seasons of abysmal blunders with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir at the back.
Two years later, the Red Devils may finally have unearthed their long-awaited successor to David de Gea.
