Just In: Man United hit by fresh Carlo Ancelotti blow after Thomas Tuchel setback

0 15

Manchester United have suffered yet another significant setback in their increasingly chaotic pursuit of an elite head coach ahead of a crucial summer rebuild.

Former United manager Ruben Amorim was dismissed shortly after the turn of the year, a decision that only added to the growing sense of instability behind the scenes at Old Trafford.

Club stalwart Darren Fletcher was placed in temporary charge for two matches before Michael Carrick was handed the reins for the remainder of the 2025–26 campaign.

According to The Athletic, Carlo Ancelotti is set to sign a new four-year contract with the Brazilian Football Confederation.

The Italian had been strongly linked with a blockbuster move to Old Trafford, but this latest development suggests he will now remain in charge of Brazil until at least 2030.

Ancelotti would have been the perfect choice for United.

The veteran manager has won domestic league titles in Spain, England, Germany and Italy.

Earlier today, it was also revealed that Thomas Tuchel has opted to extend his stay with England through to 2028.

The former Chelsea manager was another top name on United’s managerial shortlist.

This represents a crushing setback for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, who are under mounting pressure to get their next appointment right after what many view as a disastrous gamble on Amorim.

Carrick remains unbeaten in his first five matches in charge, quietly strengthening his case to be considered for the role on a permanent basis.

While results have improved, major doubts remain over whether Carrick is the long-term solution for a club desperate to return to the top of English and European football.

Over the last 24 months, Ratcliffe and his leadership team have made several costly missteps, both on and off the pitch, eroding trust among sections of the fanbase.

They have promised a cultural and footballing reset at Old Trafford, but those words now demand action, clarity and competence.

The margin for error at Old Trafford is rapidly disappearing.
