Not satisfied: What one Man United star said after West Ham proves elite mentality
Manchester United had to show real character to grind out a hard-fought point against West Ham United in a tense Premier League clash on Tuesday evening.
It was a cagey affair with good scoring chances coming at a premium before Tomas Soucek broke the deadlock with a clinical finish.
West Ham remained stubborn and well-organised at the back, but Benjamin Sesko emerged from the bench to deliver a dramatic 96th-minute equaliser that stunned the London Stadium.
Sesko spoke to the media after the game and left us impressed with his choice of words.
He said (Football on TNT Sports): “I’m happy with the finish but I’m not happy with the draw. Unfortunately we were a bit unlucky but we fought until the end.
“Unfortunately, just the days come when you are a bit unlucky. Maybe the intensity was not exactly where it should be.
“But yeah, we were fighting in the end. We got a draw, which was really important.”
Benjamin Sesko possesses elite mentality
Sesko was introduced in the 69th minute for Matheus Cunha, who operated as a number nine.
The change was a clear signal from caretaker head coach Michael Carrick that Cunha had struggled to make the desired impact in the final third.
Just when it seemed United were heading for their first defeat under Carrick, Sesko produced a moment of magic, heroically finding the net with a stunning finish.
Even elite strikers would struggle to apply that level of finesse from such a tight angle under intense pressure.
However, Sesko got across his marker and executed his finish with ruthless precision.
Despite being just 22, his post-match comments highlighted a maturity beyond his years and a mentality focused firmly on team success rather than personal glory.
That same humility and collective mindset was evident as he sprinted straight back to the halfway line, refusing to waste precious seconds on celebration and instead urging his teammates on for a late winner.
