Boyle 'Disappointed' By Late Derby Defeat

0 0

Hibs Vice-Captain Martin Boyle is looking to "make amends on Saturday" for our "disappointing" late Edinburgh Derby defeat.

The fairly even - though frantic - match was decided by substitute Tomas Magnusson, who fired in the eventual winner for the hosts on 87 minutes.

The defeat was a bitter blow for David Gray's side, who matched the home team for the entirety of the 90 but fell short in the final minutes.

"It wasn’t ideal, there was nothing in the game," Boyle told Hibs TV.

"We were masters of our own downfall. We let them take three short free kicks at the end, we don't clear the box and we don't match runners, and we got punished.

"We knew their strengths from set pieces and we've witnessed before here. So, obviously it’s not good enough on our behalf. We're disappointed but there is a game on Saturday to make amends.

"[Small margins] ultimately won them three points - with the draw being a fair point, probably.

"Did we do enough? Probably [not with our] final ball, we had a couple of half chances, but it was a reflection of the game. It was a battle out there. We've come away from a defeat and it's not ideal."

We have an opportunity to immediately rectify the loss as we host St Mirren on Saturday (14 February) at Easter Road.

With a rapid turnaround to the weekend clash, Boyle is keen for the team to quickly put the derby behind them, and put full focus and effort on the visit of Stephen Robinson's side.

"We'll have to digest it for the next few days. Obviously, losing a derby is not great. We'll have to take it on the chin.

"We'll have to move on and hopefully we can get three points on Saturday."
