Michael Carrick rules out three Man United stars for West Ham clash, reveals return date for £55m star

Manchester United will turn their attention to a demanding Premier League test against West Ham United at the London Stadium tomorrow evening.

Caretaker manager Michael Carrick has provided the team news ahead of the clash at today’s press conference.

He said (via ManUtd.com): “Mason will be probably not for Tuesday, probably after, but definitely gone into the Everton game, he’ll be back.

“Matta, we’ll see how he develops over the, you know… the Everton game feels like a long time away at the moment, so we’ll see how he develops, but he’s positive, he’s moving in the right direction, but Mason’s a little bit closer than him.”

Matthijs de Ligt remains sidelined with a back injury, having not featured since November 30, while the club offering little clarity over the length of his continued absence.

Patrick Dorgu had burst into 2026 in sensational form, but a hamstring injury picked up against Arsenal has halted his momentum and is set to keep him out for several more weeks.

Mason Mount was forced to sit out the Fulham clash after suffering a knock in training, and despite hopes of a quick return, the £55 million midfielder was again absent for the 2–0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Carrick has resisted the temptation to make several changes to the starting XI over the last four games.

However, the quick turnaround between fixtures may now force his hand, with several big calls looming.

There will be fresh calls for the manager to rest Casemiro, but the lack of high-quality alternatives could prevent Carrick from affording him that luxury.

Harry Maguire is another major concern, having completed 90 minutes in each of the last four games immediately after returning from a six-week absence with a thigh injury.

With fatigue becoming a growing factor, Carrick should not take risks with his key players.

A victory on Tuesday could propel the Red Devils into third place, but they must expect a fierce battle in East London.

West Ham have won three of their last four matches and are showing renewed determination in their fight to steer clear of the relegation zone.
