Al Michaels Snubs Patriots With Pick For “Greatest Play In Super Bowl History”

There have been 59 Super Bowls in NFL history, which have produced countless memorable plays and highlights over the years.

The New England Patriots have played in 11 of them, including some of the greatest games in Super Bowl history. Seven of those games were decided by a touchdown or less, with several going down to the final minute. In particular, the 28-3 game and the Malcolm Butler game stand out as all-time classics.

Picking the greatest play in Super Bowl history is nearly an impossible task, but legendary broadcaster Al Michaels tried to do it on the “Fitz & Whit” podcast earlier this week.

Michaels has called 11 Super Bowls throughout his illustrious career and has seen numerous amazing plays in person. However, one in particular still stands out to him. Surprisingly, it didn’t involve the Patriots.

Michaels deemed James Harrison’s 100-yard pick-six for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII “the greatest play in Super Bowl history” for him.

A respectable choice, but perhaps a bit surprising given the stakes. Harrison’s play occurred at the end of the first half, so it didn’t decide the game.

Meanwhile, Michaels was present for Butler’s interception against the Seattle Seahawks, which literally saved the game for New England during the final seconds. That one shocking play changed the game’s entire outcome.

Michaels has watched a lot of sports and seen a lot of great games, so he’s entitled to his opinion. However, many Patriots fans probably won’t agree with it.
