Michael Carrick poised to unleash 18yo wonderkid vs Tottenham after triple injury setback

0 0

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has confirmed that three players will miss the encounter with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Patrick Dorgu is ruled out with a hamstring injury, Mason Mount is sidelined with a knock, and Matthijs de Ligt remains unavailable, having not featured since November 30 due to a persistent back problem.

Matheus Cunha stepped in for Dorgu in the starting XI, while teenage winger Shea Lacey was drafted into the matchday squad in place of Mount against Fulham.

Lacey has already made three senior appearances this season under former manager Ruben Amorim, giving fans a glimpse of his exciting potential.

Carrick has recently been boosted by the return of several players from injury and the Africa Cup of Nations, which has increased competition for places.

That has pushed youngsters such as Lacey, Jack Fletcher, Tyler Fletcher and Bendito Mantato back to the Under-21s to continue their development.

However, Lacey is firmly pushing for involvement again and could make his first appearance under Carrick against Spurs.

The 18-year-old has already caught the eye with electric cameos in a United shirt.

He sent a strong message to the coaching staff this week by smashing a superb hat-trick for the Under-21s against West Bromwich Albion.

His opener was a sharp right-footed finish from close range.

He then calmly converted from the penalty spot after being brought down in the box.

Lacey completed his treble in trademark fashion, cutting inside from the right flank before unleashing a deadly left-footed strike.

The exciting winger could be unleashed in the second half to bring directness and creativity to the attack.

Amad Diallo appeared to tire late in the previous match, and introducing Lacey for the final 15 minutes could prove to be a smart tactical move.
