Tottenham star makes Premier League Team of the Month amid controversy
One Tottenham star has been named in the WhoScored Premier League Team of the Month, but he is also in the headlines for another reason.
The fallout from what has been an uninspiring transfer window for Tottenham is continuing, with many Spurs fans livid that more players did not arrive through the door in January.
Controversially, one key Tottenham Hotspur star has also spoken out publicly about the matter.
On transfer deadline day, Cristian Romero described it as ‘disgraceful’ that Tottenham had only 11 fit players available against Man City, which many saw as a dig at the club for failing to further bulk up the squad.
Tottenham captain Cristian Romero named in Premier League Team of the Month
This is not the first time that Romero has called out the Spurs board, and the club’s hierarchy may not be too impressed with the centre-back’s public outburst.
However, the Tottenham captain continues to be one of the most important players for the side, which is demonstrated by WhoScored’s Team of the Month for January.
Romero is the only Spurs player to make the eleven, with an average WhoScored rating of 7.41 across last month.
Romero wants to leave Spurs in the summer
It broke on Tuesday night through an Argentine journalist that Romero has decided he wants to leave Tottenham at the end of the season.
Spurs supporters are now even angrier at the club’s board on the back of that report, with many of them feeling the centre-back is right to feel aggrieved.
One can understand why Tottenham fans are livid as these latest numbers from WhoScored suggest that Romero remains one of the best centre-backs in world football.
