Career So Far: Dane Scarlett

0 6

Exciting centre-forward Dane Scarlett joins the Hibees on loan from Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season – find out more about our new addition below!

Born in Hillingdon, London, the striker is a product of Spurs’ academy. Dane rapidly progressed through the age groups while proving to have a keen eye for goal before breaking into the first team squad at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

A well-regarded prospect, Scarlett would feature – and score – in the U18 Premier League while just 15 years of age, as well as appear in UEFA Youth League squads at the same young age.

He became the Lilywhites’ youngest ever player when he was introduced by Jose Mourinho in place of Lucas Moura in a UEFA Europa League fixture against Ludogorets Razgrad in November 2020, aged 16 years and 247 days.

Following his first-ever professional appearance, Scarlett continued to make a name for himself as a great goalscorer at youth level before returning into the first team fold once more in February 2021 – making his Premier League debut against West Bromwich Albion.

The forward followed up these substitute showings with an assist in his next appearance; becoming the youngest player to provide an assist in the Europa League since Kylian Mbappe when he set up Carlos Vinicius against Austrian outfit Wolfsberger.

Dane made his first Tottenham start the following season, lining up against Portuguese outfit Pacos de Ferreira in the UEFA Conference League. He would then make several more appearances across league and cup competitions for the North London club in the 2021/22 season.

Scarlett made his first loan move at the start of the 2022/23 campaign, joining Portsmouth. En route to helping Pompey to an eighth-place finish in League One, he scored four league goals – including a first career brace against Peterborough – and found the net twice in the EFL Trophy.

A step up to Championship football followed in the first half of the 2023/24 season, as the young forward made 12 appearances with Ipswich Town while battling hard for a place in a team that gained automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Four Premier League appearances followed his return to Spurs in January 2024, before another stint in the Championship saw Dane score four goals for Oxford United in the first half of the 2024/25 campaign – with his first goal for the U’s a crucial stoppage-time leveller against West Brom.

Less than two weeks after his January 2025 recall, he scored a memorable first goal for Tottenham in a 3-0 UEFA Europa League victory over Elfsborg. Appearing off the bench with the score deadlocked at 0-0, he would excellently turn in Dejan Kulusevski’s cross with a smart header to open the scoring before teeing up Damola Ajayi minutes later to help seal Spurs’ spot in the last 16.

His vital strike and assist had direct influence on Spurs’ history, as the club went on to lift the Europa League by defeating Manchester United in the final of the competition in May 2025 – with Scarlett named on the bench in the final and picking up a Europa League winners’ medal.

The attacker also grabbed an assist  – returning to favour to Kulusevski for his impeccable delivery against Elfsborg – against former loan club Ipswich in a 4-1 away league win that season before making his UEFA Champions League debut earlier this campaign in a 4-0 win over Copenhagen.

Aside from club football, the 21-year-old striker has already enjoyed great success with England at youth level; appearing and scoring at U15, U16, U19, U20 and U21 level.

Scarlett would secure silverware at U19 level for England in 2022. After scoring four goals in five UEFA Euro U19 Championship qualifiers, he grabbed an assist in his country’s tournament opener against Austria and scored twice against Serbia in their next group match before playing 105 minutes in England’s 3-1 after-extra-time final victory over Israel.

He also has 10 goals in 22 caps at U20 level. He has captained England U20s on multiple occasions and also nabbed a goal and assist at the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup.

Recently, the striker has impressed at U21 level for England, scoring in his last appearance against the Netherlands in November 2024, and was drafted into training with the England national team in October 2025 following an injury to Ollie Watkins.

Dane now joins up with David Gray’s side in his first venture outside of England and will look to make an impact in Leith until the end of the season!
