Burgess Hill Town v Dartford: Post Match Interview

0 0

“We weren’t good enough from back to front”

After one of the team’s best performances of the season against Aveley, Ady Pennock was disappointed the team didn’t show the same levels against Burgess Hill Town on Saturday.

The team went 1-0 down in the first half, with a stunning goal from Denzelle Olopade levelling things before the break.

However, the team were unable to push on and even when their opposition went down to 10 men, created few chances.

Following the game, Ady admitted he wasn’t happy with the result or performance.

He said: “I was disappointed with the result. But we weren’t good enough from front to back. I thought our decision-making was poor. It’s not often I can say nearly every player had an off game.”

With the opposition creating few chances, it was a game where mistakes counted.

He continued: “For the first goal I thought we could have cleared it and the second goal was poor defending, we need to defend crosses better than that, which we have all season.

“Across the whole 96 minutes they had three chances and we gave them two goals. I thought their No.7 who scored their goals was excellent, he was very bright. But in a game like that you have to defend better.”

However, it was a match where the Darts created few chances themselves.

He said: “We didn’t create enough either, especially when they went down to 10 men.

“It’s frustrating that we didn’t push on after Aveley. But we have been a little like that. We have been playing well for the last few weeks, but it was just one of those games. We huffed and puffed but we could have been there all day and not look like scoring.

“Even the last 20 minutes, we had a team of giants on, but we were doing short corners when we should have been getting it into the box to test them. They went down to 10 but we created one chance, it wasn’t good enough and we were not playing as a team.”

Before Burgess Hill Town went down to 10 men, Ady had made a double substitution, bringing off Samir Carruthers and Olly Box for Dan Carter and Eddie Dsane.

He continued: “In hindsight, it would have been perfect for Samir. He’s the type of player who would have dictated play in that situation. I took Samir off, but five minutes later they get a red. He would have managed the game better. I wouldn’t have made the sub if it had happened before. But hindsight is a wonderful thing.”

With two home matches next up against teams around them, it’s now a case of putting the performance behind them.

Ady added: “The players were disappointed, but we should have at least come away with a draw.

“We are better than that. We lick our wounds and go again.

“There’s a lot of football to be played. There are lots of teams behind us hitting form, so we have to concentrate on us.

“When we are on it, we can beat anyone in the league. It’s why I’m most disappointed, we have to be more consistent, but sometimes you have to just say it was one of those games and we go again next week and try to go on another run.

“There’s two home matches to come and they will both be tough games. But we are strong at home. We are going to do all we can to get the six points and forget about this weekend.”
