Sarcastic Conte demands VAR check for ‘borderline’ movement in Juventus vs. Napoli

Napoli coach Antonio Conte sarcastically asked for a VAR check in the first half of a Serie A match against Juventus: ‘You are not even going to see it again, are you?’

Napoli asked for a penalty kick in the first half of a Serie A match against Juventus on Sunday.

The Partenopei broke through on the right flank with Gutierrez, who crossed towards the middle of the box, where Bremer put his arms around Hojlund’s neck. After that, Antonio Vergara went down after contact with Pierre Kalulu, but referee Maurizio Mariani waved to play on.

“You are not even going to see it again, are you? Not even going to see it again,” Conte sarcastically asked the referee from the touchline.

Bremer’s intervention was scrutinised by DAZN referee pundit Luca Marelli, who said theBrazilian took a significant risk with his action.

“Bremer grabs Hojlund by the neck, and he goes down a bit too easily,” Marelli said via Calciomercato.com.

“The incident involving Vergara is much lighter than the first. Even before the ball is played, Bremer puts his arms around Hojlund’s next and the hold is very clear in my opinion.

“Bremer’s hold is very borderline, with a movement that has nothing to do with playing the ball because he grabs Hojlund around the neck and is only watching his opponent. Only afterwards does he look at the ball. A VAR review is not easy because it’s not a clear and obvious error. From a slow-motion analysis is more of a penalty than not.”

Jonathan David gave Juventus the lead early in the first half, while Kenan Yildiz scored the second for the Old Lady after the break.
