Surf Sports Park, Home of San Diego Surf, Finalizes Facility Upgrade with Premier Level Bermuda Grass on Back Fields

San Diego, CA, January 23rdSan Diego Surf is proud to announce the plan to upgrade our back fields at Surf Sports Park to Latitude 36 bermuda grass. Once complete, the entirety of our home fields, Surf Sports Park, will have the same grass as most professional stadiums worldwide.

Surf’s mission is to provide all youth athletes with the best experiences and opportunities within the game of soccer. Over the past few years, Surf has made significant investments upgrading the facility, including the all-natural grass fields, to support the continuous development and growth of all players. The first three phases of the upgrade were officially completed in May 2025 transforming the facility’s existing 20 front fields to the highest level of premium Bermuda grass. The next phase encompasses the back fields, the home to our Zone One program, starting in February. The fields will be fully ready for action starting with Club América Cup in late May.

“Surf Sports Park, the training grounds for San Diego Surf,  hosts the nation’s top youth athletic talent,” said Josh Henderson, Executive Director of San Diego Surf. “By providing our highly competitive players the opportunity to train and compete on the same grass as the pros, we’re elevating the standard of our environment to match our players’ elite level of play. This is a very proud moment for our club and our future.”

The Latitude 36 bermuda grass is used in most of the nation’s best stadiums such as Dodger Stadium, Sofi Stadium, Kansas City Chiefs’ NFL training facilities and the LA Coliseum. Internationally, it also appears on the pitch at world-class professional soccer events in Spain, Italy, Japan and Greece.

Thank you to all of our teams, coaches, players and families for supporting our journey and helping us provide you with the Best of the Best.
